Grove Innovations Road Bike

grove_product_green00

Grove Innovations were well known for their very high end and colorful mountain bikes. They were one of the few east coast builders making it big. This is the first road bike any collector I know has ever seen. I have no idea how many they made but it must not have been very many. It’s lugged which is rare for them and the workmanship is actually really nice. I suspect that the employee that made this was not new to lugged frame construction and likely an old hand at it. Judging by the Campy triple cranks, Simplex Retrofriction shifters, and over the bottom bracket cable routing it’s obvious that this is a fairly early frame for Grove. I would guess early to mid 80’s. The rest of the components look to be upgrades from the late 80’s.
